Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Course (Deep Water) - Blended Learning (April 5-6, 2025)
Location: Furman University Athletic Center
Dates: April 5 - 6, 2025
Times: April 5: 9am - 5pm, April 6: 10am - 2pm
Course Prerequisites
- Online Modules: Online learning modules must be completed prior to April 5
- Age Requirement: Candidates must be at least 15 years old by the end of the course. A government-issued ID is required for age verification.
- Pre-Course Skills Assessment:
- Swim 300 yards continuously, demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing using front crawl, breaststroke, or a combination of both (no backstroke or sidestroke).
- Timed Swim (1 minute, 40 seconds max):
- Swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke.
- Surface dive 7-10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
- Return to the surface and swim 20 yards back on your back, holding the object.
- Exit the water without using steps or a ladder.
Course Requirements
- Mandatory Attendance: Full attendance is required. Absences result in course failure—no exceptions or refunds. Please confirm availability before registering.
- Active Participation: Engage in all class activities.
- Skill Competency: Demonstrate proficiency in all required skills.
- Professionalism: Exhibit maturity and responsibility expected of a lifeguard.
- Final Scenarios: Successfully complete three practical assessments.
- Written Exams: Score at least 80% on both written tests.
