When I was younger, I kept having dreams about drowning. My mom took me to our pastor and we prayed over it. A year later, there was an incident and my sister started to drown. Not even really knowing how to swim, but knowing that I needed to save her, I was able to! My grandmother was able to perform CPR, and my sister is thankfully 18 years old today. This is why water safety is so important to me. 💧Why did you become a swim instructor? I want people to help people learn this survival skill. It’s very important. 💧What you love about teaching at SLWM? I love teaching and getting to help improve my clients’ lives. I love working with kids and getting to see them succeed. Their smiles and laughter bring me so much joy. 💧Fun fact about you! I absolutely love to travel. Alex and I headed to Vegas in September for a long weekend to attend the US Swim School Association Conference. It was an exciting few days filled with hundreds of passionate, private swim school owners from around the world. Everyone came together to share best practices on swim instruction & technique, drowning prevention, operations and how to deliver the best swim lesson and experience to each of you. We are energized and excited to continue to grow our impact in the community and are all united around one important cause - to prevent drownings. The days were jam packed with seminars, round tables and networking, but we did manage to squeeze in a few fun things along the way. We checked out the Sphere, lost the fastest $30 of our lives playing slots and got to see Cirque du Soleil before heading home on a red eye. Grateful for the opportunity to learn from the best in the industry and excited to continue to grow and serve each of our swimmers better everyday. Cheers! SLWM will be making a donation to these efforts and is extending an offer to our community of swimmers to opt in to donate a makeup lesson. If you’re interested and want to participate, please shoot us an email or message. SLWM will match all proceeds from donated makeup lessons and send all the proceeds to Happy Helicopter’s GoFundMe. This week’s Swimmer Spotlight is Isla! ✨ Isla is an intermediate swimmer who has made a ton of progress in the last few months. She has overcome a fear of swimming and floating on her own.
